DECEMBER, 2025

The Chair holder, Associate Professor Vicky Karaiskou, collaborated with the Chair holder of the UNESCO Chair on Heritage Futures, Professor Cornelius Holtorf, in co-designing and co-facilitating the Futures Workshop “Crisis Preparedness and Beyond: Future-Making through Heritage”, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, during World Futures Day 2025. 

FEBRUARY, 2025

The Chair holder, Dr. Vicky Karaiskou, participated at the conference for the 20 years operation of the UNESCO Chairs in Cyprus organized by the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO and contributed to the short film created by the National Commission with an aim to promote the Cypriot UNESCO Chairs (watch the video here). 

SEPTEMBER, 2024

The Chair holder, Dr. Vicky Karaiskou, implemented a series of online workshops during September on “Imag(in)ing living” with the WITS School of Governance in South Africa. 

APRIL, 2024

Dr. Vicky Karaiskou was invited by the UNESCO Chair “Devenirs en Méditerranée” at the Université de Corse Pascal Paoli, Corsica, France to run a series of workshops during April on identity and challenges related to perceptions of the Corsican identity.

NOVEMBER 10, 2023

Dr. Vicky Karaiskou, the Director of the Chair, presented the Chair’s project “BABELproject: Challenge your visual perceptions” during the “Slow Curating: Time, Memory and Representation” online workshop, an activity of the COST Action “Slow Memory”, organized by the WG6 “Training and Building Capacity”.

JULY 4, 2023

Dr. Vicky Karaiskou, the Director of the Chair, presented her short film Trojan Women reimagined at the Memory Studies Association (MSA) Communities and Change Film Program, during the 7th Annual Conference of MSA at the Newcastle University, UK.

JUNE 27, 2023

Dr. Vicky Karaiskou, the Director of the Chair, presented a lecture on “Frontiers of the Visible: Imagining Alternative Futures”, during the 29th International Conference of Europeanists, University of Iceland, Reykjavik.

World Futures Day, December 2, 2022

UNESCO has unanimously adopted December 2nd as World Futures Day at the 41st session of it’s General Conference, on November 24, 2021 in Paris. It is an invitation to the countries of the world to develop their capabilities and governance towards proactive policy-making and sustainable development for future generations, as well as international collaboration that encourages communities to participate in the process of creating the future.

World Futures Day also aims to enable countries to use scientific tools that enhance awareness on the importance of anticipating the future and inventing new solutions that stimulate creativity and innovation.
