The module ISM700 – Master Thesis is designed to equip students with the essential training required for conducting advanced research in the fields of finance, management, and shipping. Serving as a foundation for high-level academic work, this module prepares students to undertake a comprehensive dissertation on a topic of their choice, allowing them to explore a relevant and impactful issue within the shipping, management, and/or finance sectors. Through the research process, students will gain proficiency in identifying, reviewing, and critically analysing both academic and non-academic literature and in understanding theoretical frameworks applicable to their research focus.

This module provides students with the skills to develop, justify, and implement a research methodology, manage their research timeline, and utilize appropriate data analysis techniques. Students will engage in an in-depth examination of data specific to international shipping and finance, synthesizing their findings to address research questions and propose innovative solutions. By comparing diverse methodologies and ensuring ethical research practices, students will be well-prepared to communicate their results clearly, both in writing and in oral presentations, thus building a strong foundation for a successful dissertation that contributes original insights to the field.
