Η Δρ. Βίκυ (Βάγια) Καραΐσκου είναι Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια στο Πρόγραμμα «Πολιτιστική Πολιτική και Ανάπτυξη» στο Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου και Διευθύντρια της Έδρας UNESCO "Visual Anticipation and Futures Literacy towards Visual Literacy" (https://ouc.ac.cy/unesco-chair). Στο παρελθόν έχει διδάξει σε πανεπιστήμια της Ελλάδας (Ελληνικό Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο, Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλίας, Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών), της Αμερικής (Macalester College, Saint Paul, MN) και της Ευρώπης (Maastricht University, Universitá degli Studi di Bergamo).  

Η ερευνητική της δραστηριότητα αφορά σε θέματα οπτικότητας στο πλαίσιο των αλληλεπιδράσεων μεταξύ τεχνών και κοινωνικού περιβάλλοντος. Συγκεκριμένα ερευνά θέματα τέχνης και εξουσίας, πολιτισμικής και εθνική μνήμης, πολιτισμικών και εθνικών ταυτοτήτων, τελετών μνήμης και σύγχρονης ελληνικής τέχνης.

Από το 2014, εισήγαγε στην έρευνά της θεωρίες νευροεπιστήμης και ψυχολογίας που εξηγούν πώς τα οπτικά ερεθίσματα δημιουργούν νόημα και χτίζουν μνήμη και ταυτότητα. Η μεθοδολογία Futures Literacy υπήρξε η επόμενη σημαντική τομή το 2018 και οδήγησε στην προαναφερόμενη Έδρα της UNESCO. Από το 2019, συμμετέχει ενεργά σε Futures Literacy and Visual Literacy Labs, αναπτύσσοντας εργαλεία οπτικού γραμματισμού και ενσωματώνοντας απορρέουσες έννοιες και πρακτικές στο διδακτικό και ερευνητικό της πεδίο.

Συμμετέχει με ανακοινώσεις σε διεθνή συνέδρια. Έχει δημοσιεύσει έξι βιβλία ως μοναδική συγγραφέας, κεφάλαια σε συλλογικούς τόμους και έρευνα, μεταξύ άλλων, στα Palgrave Macmillan, Routledge, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, International Journal of Politics, Culture, and Society, The International Journal of Arts Theory and History.

SHORT VITA

Dr. Vicky (Vayia) Karaiskou is Associate Professor in the "Cultural Policy and Development"  MA Program at the Open University of Cyprus and Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair "Visual Anticipation and Futures Literacy towards Visual Literacy" (https://ouc.ac.cy/unesco-chair). She has taught at universities in Greece (Hellenic Open University, University of Thessaly, University of Patras), the United States (Macalester College, Saint Paul, MN) and Europe (Maastricht University, Universitá degli Studi di Bergamo).

Her research focuses on the interactions between arts and social milieu. Particular issues of research include visuality and visual literacy; cultural and national identities; cultural and national memory; commemoration and public sculpture; and artworks and power.

Since 2014, she started bringing into her research neuroscience and psychology theories that explain how we make sense and build memory, identities and communities. Futures Literacy methodology was the next major stepping-stone in 2018 that resulted in the aforementioned UNESCO Chair on "Visual Anticipation and Futures literacy towards Visual Literacy". Since 2019, she is actively involved in Futures Literacy and Visual Literacy Labs, developing visual literacy tools, and embedding FL & VL concepts in her teaching and research field.

She regularly participates in international conferences. She has published six (6) books as sole writer and publishes in peer reviewed scientific journals and collective volumes, among others for Palgrave Macmillan, Routledge, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, International Journal of Politics, Culture, and Society, The International Journal of Arts Theory and History.
