Η Δρ. Βάγια Καραΐσκου είναι Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια στο Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα «Πολιτιστική Πολιτική και Ανάπτυξη» στο Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Επί σειρά ετών έχει διδάξει στο Πρόγραμμα «Σπουδές στον Ευρωπαϊκό Πολιτισμό» του Ελληνικού Ανοικτού Πανεπιστημίου, στο Πρόγραμμα «Σπουδές στον Ελληνικό Πολιτισμό» του ΑΠΚΥ, στο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλίας (Τμήματα Αρχιτεκτόνων και Προσχολικής Εκπαίδευσης) και στο Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών (Τμήμα Θεατρικών Σπουδών). Ως προσκεκλημένη καθηγήτρια δίδαξε σε πανεπιστήμια της Ιταλίας, της Ολλανδίας, της Γαλλίας, της Σουηδίας και της Νορβηγίας.

Από το 2022 είναι Διευθύντρια της Έδρας UNESCO στο αντικείμενο “Visual Anticipation and Futures Literacy towards Visual Literacy”. Το 2014 υπήρξε Andrew J. Mellon Distinguished Visitor-in-Residence in the Fine Arts στο Macalester College (Saint Paul, MN, USA).

Η ερευνητική δραστηριότητα της Δρος Καραΐσκου αφορά σε θέματα οπτικότητας στο πλαίσιο των σχέσεων μεταξύ καλλιτεχνικής / πολιτισμικής παραγωγής και κοινωνίας. Εστιάζει, επίσης, στην πολιτισμική μνήμη, σε ταυτότητες και οπτικές αφηγήσεις στην Ελλάδα, στην Κύπρο και ευρύτερα στον διεθνή χώρο, όπως επίσης και σε θέματα συλλογικής μνήμης σε κοινωνίες συγκρούσεων. Η έρευνά της «Το μέλλον του παρελθόντος» (“Futures of the Past”), η οποία αναπτύσσεται σε σχέση με το ερευνητικό αντικείμενο της Έδρας UNESCO, διερευνά πώς η πολιτισμική κληρονομιά και η συλλογική μνήμη διαμορφώνει τον τρόπο σκέψης και δράσης μας στο παρόν και στο μέλλον. Η μικρού μήκους ταινία της Trojan Women re-imagined (2022) εντάσσεται σε αυτήν την έρευνα. Η ταινία έχει συμπεριληφθεί στο επίσημο πρόγραμμα προβολών έξι (6) Διεθνών Φεστιβάλ Ταινιών Μικρού Μήκους (Μαδρίτη, Νέα Υόρκη, Τόκυο, Ρώμη, Σεούλ, Μολδαβία) και έχει αποσπάσει εύφημο μνεία στην κατηγορία πειραματικού φιλμ το 2024 στο  London Greek Film Festival.

Είναι μέλος της Συμβουλευτικής Επιτροπής του προγράμματος Horizon PULSE-ART (2024-2027) και έχει έντονη συμμετοχή σε διεθνή συνέδρια. Είναι κριτής σε διεθνή επιστημονικά έντυπα, έχει συγγράψει έξι (6) βιβλία ως μοναδική συγγραφέας και δημοσιεύει σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά με κριτές και συλλογικούς τόμους.

SHORT VITA

Dr. Karaiskou is Associate Professor of Art History in the “Cultural Policy and Development” postgraduate programme at the Open University of Cyprus.

She has taught in the BA programme “Studies in Hellenic Culture” at the Open University of Cyprus, the BA programme “Studies in the European Civilization” at the Hellenic Open University, as well as at the University of Thessaly (departments of Architecture and Preschool Education) and University of Patras (department of Theater Studies). As a visiting professor, she taught at universities in Italy, the Netherlands, France, Sweden and Norway.

Since 2022, she is the Director of the UNESCO Chair on “Visual Anticipation and Futures Literacy towards Visual Literacy”. In 2014 she was Andrew J. Mellon Distinguished Visitor-in-Residence in the Fine Arts at the Macalester College (Saint Paul, MN, USA).

Her research activity focuses on issues of visuality related with artistic / cultural production and society. In addition, she focuses on cultural memory, identities and visual narratives in Greece, Cyprus and abroad, as well as on collective identities in conflict societies. Her research project “Futures of the Past”, which relates to her UNESCO Chair project, explores how heritage and collective memory shape our assumptions and dictate our anticipations. Her short film Trojan Women re-imagined (2022) is part of this research project; It was included in the official programs of six (6) International Short Film Festivals (Madrid, New York, Rome, Tokyo, Seoul, Moldova) and was awarded with Honorable Mention for Experimental Film by the 2024 London Greek Film Festival.

She is member of the Advisory Board of the PULSE-ART Horizon programme (2024-2027) and has an intense presence at international conferences. She is a reviewer for international journals, she has published six (6) books as sole writer, and publishes in peer reviewed scientific journals and collective volumes.
