O Δρ Γεώργιος Δεληγιαννάκης κατέχει διδακτορικό (Οξφόρδη, 2007) στην ιστορία και αρχαιολογία του νοτιοανατολικού Αιγαίου κατά την ύστερη αρχαιότητα (300-700 μ.Χ.).

Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα περιλαμβάνουν ποικίλες πτυχές της ιστορίας και αρχαιολογίας του αιγαιακού χώρου και της ανατολικής Μεσογείου, ιδιαίτερα κατά τους ρωμαϊκούς και πρώιμους βυζαντινούς χρόνους.

Έχει δημοσιεύσει δεκάδες άρθρα με θέματα αρχαιολογίας, επιγραφικής, κοινωνικής και οικονομικής ιστορίας των ύστερων ρωμαϊκών και βυζαντινών χρόνων. Το πρώτο του βιβλίο με τίτλο «The Dodecanese and the Eastern Aegean Islands in Late Antiquity, AD 300-700» κυκλοφόρησε από τον εκδοτικό οίκο Oxford University Press (2016). Το 2022 εκδόθηκε η δεύτερη μονογραφία του με τίτλο «A Cultural History of Late Roman Cyprus» από το Κέντρο Επιστημονικών Ερευνών της Κύπρου. Έχει διατελέσει επισκέπτης ερευνητής στα Πανεπιστήμια Princeton, Ohio State, Humboldt, Rostock & Bologna. Από το 2020 είναι επικεφαλής πανεπιστημιακής ανασκαφής στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της αρχαίας Μεσσήνης (OUC Basilica Excavation Project).

SHORT VITA

Dr. Deligiannakis holds a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford, UK (2007) in the History and Archaeology of South-Eastern Aegean Islands in late antiquity.

His research interests include a variety of topics related to the history and archeology of the Eastern Mediterranean during the Roman and Late Roman period.

He has published numerous articles in the areas of archeology, Greek epigraphy, social and economic history of the Late Roman and Byzantine world. Dr. Deligiannakis’ first monograph is titled “The Dodecanese and East Aegean Islands in Late Antiquity, AD 300-700”, published by Oxford University Press in 2016. His new monograph titled “A Cultural History of Late Roman Cyprus” came out in 2022.

He has held various research Fellowships (Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, Humbold Universität zu Berlin; Program in Hellenic Studies, Princeton University; Sterling Dow Fellow, Ohio State University). He has taught also at the Department of Philology, University of Patras and the Department of History and Cultures, University of Bologna. Since 2020, he is head of the Open University of Cyprus excavation in Ancient Messene (OUC Basilica Excavation Project).
