O Δρ. Μαρίνος Στυλιανού είναι Επίκουρος Καθηγητής στη Διαχείριση και Προστασία Περιβάλλοντος στη Σχολή Θετικών και Εφαρμοσμένων Επιστημών του Ανοικτού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου και μέλος του Εργαστηρίου Χημικής Μηχανικής και Μηχανικής Αειφορίας. Είναι Διπλωματούχος Χημικός Μηχανικός (2002) και Διδάκτωρ Μηχανικός (2012) της Σχολής Χημικών Μηχανικών του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου.

Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζονται στον τομέα της χημικής μηχανικής και μηχανικής περιβάλλοντος σε θέματα όπως: (i) σχεδιασμός διεργασιών απορρύπανσης, (ii) χαρακτηρισμός αποβλήτων, (iii) ανάπτυξη ροφητικών υλικών, (iv) πετρέλαιο και φυσικό αέριο, (v) αποκατάσταση εγκαταλελειμμένων μεταλλείων, (vi) ποιότητα αέρα εσωτερικών χώρων.

Η διδακτική εμπειρία τους Δρος Στυλιανού πριν τον διορισμό του στο Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (2022) περιλαμβάνει τη διδασκαλία σχετικών μαθημάτων στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, το Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, το Ευρωπαϊκό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, καθώς και στο Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου ως Συνεργαζόμενο Εκπαιδευτικό Προσωπικό.

Από το 2012 έως το 2022, εκπόνησε 3 μεταδιδακτορικές ερευνητικές μελέτες στις θεματικές ενότητες: (i) Χρήση επιφανειοδραστικών ουσιών για την ανάκτηση NAPLs από ρυπασμένα εδαφη, (ii) Ανάπτυξη Ροφητών Χαμηλού κόστους για Περιβαλλοντικές Εφαρμογές (στο Διεθνές Ερευνητικό Κέντρο Νερού Νηρέας και στο Τμήμα Πολιτικών Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Περιβάλλοντος του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου), (iii) Απομάκρυνση θείου από το πετρέλαιο με χρήση τεχνολογίας Βιοαποθείωσης (στο Τμήμα Χημείας του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου, Τμήμα Χημικών Μηχανικών - Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου και NORTEST Ltd).

Η εργασιακή του εμπειρία περιλαμβάνει επίσης εργασία στον κλάδο για περισσότερα από 20 χρόνια σε πολλά ευρωπαϊκά και διεθνή χρηματοδοτούμενα έργα σε τομείς που σχετίζονται με το περιβάλλον. Είναι συν-συγγραφέας σε περισσότερες από 50 δημοσιεύσεις σε επιστημονικά περιοδικά, σε 4 κεφάλαια βιβλίων και έχει πέραν των 80 ανακοινώσεων σε διεθνή επιστημονικά συνέδρια.

SHORT VITA

Dr. Marinos Stylianou is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Conservation and Management at the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences of the Open University of Cyprys and a member of the University’s Lab of Chemical Engineering and Engineering Sustainability. He graduated from the Chemical Engineering Department of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2002 and was awarded a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in the field of Waste Management in 2012, also from NTUA.

His research interests are focused on the  fieldof chemical  and  environmental engineering such as: (i) design of decontamination processes, (ii) characterization of waste,  (iii) development  of sorbent  materials,   (iv) oil and natural gas, (v) remediation of abandoned mines, (vi) indoor air quality.

His teaching experience before his appointment as an Assistant Professor at OUC includes teaching relevant courses at the University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, European University of Cyprus, as well as the Open University of Cyprus.

From 2012 until 2022, he conducted 3 Postdoctoral research studies in the thematic areas of: (i)Use of surfactants to recover NAPLs contamination from soil, (ii) Development of Low-cost Sorbents for Environmental Applications (at Nireas International Water Research Center at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of  Cyprus),   (iii)   Sulfur removal from oil by Biodesulfurization technology (at the Department of Chemistry-UCY, Cyprus University of Technology and NORTEST Ltd).

His employment experience also includes working for more than 20 years in several European and non- European funded projects in environmental-related fields. He has (co)authored more than 50 journal papers in high-impact international scientific journals, 4 book chapters, and he presented  his work  in  high-level scientific conferences (>80 papers).
