The ΜΔΕ700 Applied Business Dissertation module helps students to learn and practice on how to plan and conduct business research in order to develop a specific research and action plan to address a relevant research problem. The dissertation needs to be applied on real organisations through the application, collection, and analysis of information and the proposal of workable solutions to the organisation.

The aim of this module is to help students understand how to identify, assess, and analyse business problems and apply solutions based on applied research. Specifically, this module helps students:

  • to understand the role and importance of research in the field of business administration.
  • enhance their teamwork and group work skills.
  • to distinguish the basic philosophical directions of research and their effects.
  • in the design of an applied business study taking into account the legal limitations and ethical issues on the part of the researcher.
  • in formulating business problems, research questions and research hypotheses.
  • distinguishing the limitations of a research and the way they are formulated in a scientific text.
  • in the selection of appropriate scientific sources in the context of the literature review
  • in structuring information in a scientific text.
  • in selecting the appropriate data collection tool taking into account its features and limitations.
  • selecting the appropriate sample for the survey and calculating the sampling error in the case of quantitative research.
  • in the selection of appropriate data analysis techniques.

The ΜΔΕ617 Markets and Investments module introduces students to the main principles of finance and seeks to highlight its role in business administration. Upon completion of the course, students will have knowledge of the use of modern financial tools in the decision-making process and will be able to apply basic financial management policies to companies and organisations. They will also have a comprehensive understanding of the financial system and the context in which businesses and intermediaries operate today. At the same time students will have a basic knowledge of business financing methods with an emphasis on modern tools.

The ΜΔΕ616 “Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility’’ module provides students with an analytical framework of corporate sustainability and responsibility that incorporates three main parts:

  • CSR Thought: This part introduces students to the philosophical origins of CSR, evolution of the CSR concept and established theoretical frameworks.
  • CSR Approaches and Implementation: This part will provide the knowledge and appropriate tools to think from an ethical business point of view. It will also introduce the concept of environmental sustainability as well as good practices.
  • CSR Measurement and Communication: This part will help students understand how to measure and communicate the impact of CSR as well as how to embed sustainability into marketing strategy.

 

This module takes a holistic and pragmatic approach to corporate sustainability and responsibility, incorporating business applications, real world examples, and practice-based features and exercises that enable students to further enhance their personal and professional development.

The development, implementation and measurement of an integrated digital marketing strategy along with the study of consumer behaviour in the digital era are the focal points of the module. The module covers both current academic insights and emerging business practice in the field of digital marketing.

The ΜΔΕ614 Money and Banking module deals primarily with the role of money and banking in the context of the broader economy. It moreover focuses on the basic functions of money and the financial system, as a whole. The module also deals with interest rates and what causes them to change, as well as with the term structure of interest rates. Following that, the stock market and its main functions is discussed as well as the bond markets and the foreign exchange market. The module presents insights related to the management of financial institutions and the importance of their regulation and concludes with financial crises.

This module is designed to explore the dimensions of service management and the process of ongoing improvement. It prepares students for the challenges in the service sector and suggests creative entrepreneurial opportunities in different services. Outstanding service organisations are managed differently than their manufacturing counterparts. The results show not only in terms of conventional measures of performance, but also in the enthusiasm of the employees and degree of customer satisfaction. The purpose of this module is to introduce students to the following areas:

  • Data and Information Management, where the course provides the knowledge and appropriate tools to teach students to think as data scientists and analytics professionals and in particular it provides them the necessary knowledge to critically assess the current landscape of big data and analytics technologies.
  • Decision Theory and Analytical Reasoning, where the course introduces the basic concepts on the theory and practice of evidence-based decision making using motivating examples of real-world case studies and the application of analytics techniques for improving organisational performance in vertical (marketing, finance, operations management) and horizontal (across the organisation) settings.

Organisational decision making and change management, where the module’s objective is to provide students with the knowledge and ability to drive change and effectiveness in their organisation by utilizing the productivity gains by the incorporation of advances in business and data analytics.

The aim of this module is to introduce students to the main research methods and statistical tools used in data analysis. The module covers the most important aspects of research methods and captures descriptive statistical analysis and predictive analytics. In particular, the module focuses on topics such as available research approaches, research strategies, methods and techniques (e.g., qualitative and quantitative), data exploration and summary (sources and types of data, descriptive statistics and methods of displaying data; methods to describe the distribution of a single variable; methods to find relationships among variables), probability  theory (basic concepts in probability; random variables, major discrete and continuous probability distributions), statistical inference (sampling methods and distributions; confidence interval estimation; hypothesis testing), regression analysis (simple and multiple regression analysis, hypothesis testing within regression analysis), and spreadsheet modelling with the IBM SPSS Statistical Package.
