The Senate is the highest academic body of the Open University of Cyprus, and is responsible for the academic affairs of the University, both teaching and research.


Among other responsibilities, the Senate:

  • approves the decisions of the Rector, programmes of study, and the award of degrees and diplomas.
  • determines the needs of the University related to premises and equipment, and is responsible for budget allocation and the University’s relations with other universities, research institutions, and other public and private bodies.
  • constitutes committees and may delegate to them, on the terms and conditions it deems appropriate to impose, any of its powers.
  • exercises any power and performs any duty that is granted or imposed by relevant OUC Laws or Regulations.
