PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The aim of the Master’s programme in “Accounting and Finance” is to contribute to the graduation of executives that possess a modern and comprehensive knowledge on Finance and Accounting, as well as the appropriate expertise by linking theory to practice.

Graduates of the Programme are expected to acquire the knowledge required to analyse and address the challenges posed by a financial environment that is constantly evolving. With such knowledge, graduates will be able to take appropriate financial decisions based on theoretical principles, as well as on empirical evidence.

The Programme gives a comprehensive view on the environment in which financial institutions operate, analysing the functions, properties and the importance of the financial system. In particular, it provides a balanced mix between theory and modern applications based on two pillars:

  • Finance, covering, inter alia, Portfolio Management, Corporate Finance, as well as more specialised topics in, Financial Risk Management, and the latest developments in financial technology.
  • Accounting, providing the bases that allow graduates to prepare accounting reports and to interpret the accounting information required by banks, firms and other financial institutions in order to take appropriate and rational decisions. In addition to a general introduction to Accounting, the areas of Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting and Management Accounting are also covered.
