PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
The Postgraduate Programme in Theatre Studies aims to foster learning and research skills in central fields of theatre and drama, including History of the Theatre, Theatre Theory, Acting and Directing, Reception of Ancient Drama, and Theatre in Education.
A major mission of the Postgraduate Programme is also:
- To promote collaborations with other Universities in Cyprus and abroad, through research seminars, student and teacher exchange programmes, research collaborations etc.
- To work with other organizations in Cyprus and abroad at the level of practical training for students as well as in the context of MA theses and assignments.
- To promote the philosophy of open and distance learning by organizing seminars and open lectures for the public.
The programme has the following three concentrations / specialisations:
(1) Reception of Ancient Drama
(2) Theatre in Education
(3) Acting and Directing
The programme is evaluated and accredited by:
GRADUATES CAN BE EMPLOYED-CAREER PROSPECTS
Graduates of the Postgraduate Programme in Theatre Studies may, among other things:
- Work at the Ministry of Education and Culture, in local government or in cultural associations responsible for theatrical and cultural events.
- Work as theatre critics for the daily and periodical press.
- Work as dramaturgs (responsible for the analysis of theatrical texts in preparation for a performance), or artistic directors.
- Work on TV or the radio as consultants for theatre and cultural programmes.
- If they are educators, they can enrich their teaching with theatre techniques to enhance creativity or work with the students to stage ancient or modern plays.
- If they are experienced in business management, they can work in the management and promotion of cultural products.
The Open University of Cyprus (OUC), through its participation in the European project "Liaison Offices with the Labour Market", offers to students of all its programmes of study, the optional and free of charge Thematic Unit (i.e. Module) entitled "Industry Placement". This module provides students opportunities for a placement to gain professional experience in their particular field of study, and the hosting institution can be any public or private organisation operating in the Republic of Cyprus.
Each student has the right to participate in this offering once or twice during his / her studies, provided that s/he meets the required conditions.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for the Postgraduate Programme in “Theatre Studies” must:
- Have a Degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution (in any academic field)
Applicants expecting to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree by the time of their enrolment in the Open University of Cyprus, or pending issue of their Degree, are still entitled to apply for admission.
- Have a very good command of the English language since in all courses a wide range of literature (such as academic articles and books) is in English.
- Possess adequate computer literacy (esp. Microsoft Office, email, Internet) to navigate educational material unhindered.
TUITION
The total cost of the fees for this Postgraduate Programme is 5,400 Euro.
With regard to discounts and scholarships, the broader policy of the University is followed.

Each student can optionally enrol, once or twice, in the free of charge Thematic Unit (i.e. Module) "Industry Placement", which awards five (5) ECTS. The module offers a structured placement, designed to offer students specific industry and professional experience in their particular field of study, and to allow them to build their skills in a real-world setting. The hosting institution can be any public or private organisation operating in the Republic of Cyprus:
