This module aims to assist students to recognise how politics and power rule society and determines the hierarchical relations within it. Additionally, to offer a strong theoretical background that would assist students’ reflection on the evaluation of their personal perspectives about the Media. Those will serve as the background on which to develop specialised techniques and professional capacities in journalism and communication in the second year. Finally, it offers an introduction to academic research (including assessment of bibliographical information), critical thinking (focusing on the assessment and development of argumentation) and academic writing (with information on academic style and formation of bibliography).

With the use of printed and electronic material, new media and social networking, in the Module offered in the 1st year of study the following subjects are developed:

  • The justification of the political authority by democracy and other political ideologies
  • The political story that shaped our Greek and European identity
  • International relations and organizations in the era of globalization
  • The national and globalized factors of the economic crisis
