The ΜΑ Programme in Theatre Studies offers advanced and specialized training in the history, theory, analysis, and practice of theatre. The programme comprises four core Modules, common to all concentrations, as well as three specialized concentrations: Reception of Ancient Drama, Theatre in Education, and Acting and Directing. Through carefully designed modules, the programme provides up-to-date academic knowledge, specialized professional competencies, and research proficiency in the scholarly study of theatre. It prepares graduates for careers in education, research, cultural institutions, artistic creation and production, while also equipping them with the necessary foundations for pursuing doctoral studies.

The core Modules (Introduction to Theatre Studies, Theatre Theory, and History of Theatre and Drama I & II) offer a solid theoretical and historical grounding. Through these modules, students become familiar with the historical development and evolutionary phases of theatre, with the principal theoretical approaches that have shaped the study of the theatrical phenomenon, and with the cultural contexts that inform theatrical forms across periods. At the same time, students acquire the ability to critically analyse performances and dramatic texts.

Graduates of the Postgraduate Programme in Theatre Studies may, among other things:

• Work at the Ministry of Education and Culture, in local government or in cultural associations responsible for theatrical and cultural events.
• Work as theatre critics for the daily and periodical press.
• Work as dramaturgs (responsible for the analysis of theatrical texts in preparation for a performance), or artistic directors.
• Work on TV or the radio as consultants for theatre and cultural programmes.
• If they are educators, they can enrich their teaching with theatre techniques to enhance creativity or work with the students to stage ancient or modern plays.
• If they are experienced in business management, they can work in the management and promotion of cultural products.

The Open University of Cyprus (OUC), through its participation in the European project "Liaison Offices with the Labour Market", offers to students of all its programmes of study, the optional and free of charge Thematic Unit (i.e. Module) entitled "Industry Placement". This module provides students opportunities for a placement to gain professional experience in their particular field of study, and the hosting institution can be any public or private organisation operating in the Republic of Cyprus.

Each student has the right to participate in this offering once or twice during his / her studies, provided that s/he meets the required conditions.

Candidates for the Postgraduate Programme in “Theatre Studies” must have:

• A Bachelor's degree (in any area) awarded by an accredited institution of higher education

• Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in the use of email and the internet

• A satisfactory command of the English language, sufficient to allow effective use of specialised academic literature published in English

The total cost of the fees for this Postgraduate Programme is €3,300 (for Cypriots and EU citizens). For non EU citizens is €4,290.
