During their second year of studies (in the case of full time students) or as soon as part-time students have completed the compulsory modules of the first year of studies, students may opt to do a Master’s Thesis. The students can submit their thesis proposal after the completion of compulsory core modules for both tracks / specialisation areas. The proposal must be accepted by a member of the programme’s teaching staff, who agrees to undertake the supervision of the dissertation. Alternatively, a selection of proposed topics is suggested by the teaching staff of the programme.

The master's thesis is expected to contribute to research in the subjects of the program on a theoretical level or to the design and evaluation of practical applications (teaching proposals, teaching materials, etc.).

Master’s Theses are completed in two to three semesters and are evaluated by a three-member committee of the programme’s teaching staff. The three-member committee is approved by the faculty (in this case, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences) and consists of the supervisor and two members. All three members, but especially the supervisor, have research and academic experience in relevant areas.

The Programme organises public presentations of Master’s Theses at the end of each academic semester. During the presentation of a Master’s thesis, the student presents her research and findings and takes questions from the three-member committee; afer this, the student withdraws and the three-member committee confers to evaluate the student's performance.

After the thesis defense and the announcement of the final grade by the committee, the student has fulfilled the academic requirements for the degree.
