The objective of the module is to promote a critical understanding of practical and theoretical issues of teaching Ancient Greek language and literature (original texts and translations); to design and evaluate current teaching methodologies and to examine critically the use of translation as a pedagogical tool. Emphasis is placed on the following areas: an overview of pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning classical languages, with an emphasis on Ancient Greek; theories for analysing and evaluating curricula and school coursebooks; educational policies for teaching Ancient Greek in Greece and Cyprus and underlying ideologies; approaches to designing teaching scenarios with applications in the current  pedagogical practice; analysing  pedagogical approaches to teaching Ancient Greek language and literature; overview of basic trends in current translation studies and issues of intra- and inter-linguistic translation; special didactics of Ancient Greek language and literature both in translation and in the original; the contribution of contemporary approaches to literacy to the teaching Ancient Greek language and literature; the contribution of ICT to teaching Ancient Greek language and literature through specific teaching applications.
