This Thematic Unit examines the phenomenon of corruption, both in the private and public sectors, including police corruption. Reference will also be made to political corruption. The concept, examples and root factors of corruption are then investigated and the consequences of the phenomenon are examined. Students become familiar with current issues such as lobbying, election accountability, political objectivity, legislative footprint and the revolving doors. Finally, attention turns to certain ways of dealing with corruption by utilizing knowledge from the international literature and examining their application in Cypriot society.
