The postgraduate programme “European Union Law” organizes two online public lectures on constitutional systems and the nature of parliamentary procedures (26+27/10/2021)

The Postgraduate Programme in European Union Law of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) will host Dr. Zsolt Szabó, Senior Research Fellow at the National University of Public Service and Associate Professor at the Károli Gáspár University (Hungary), for a staff teaching programme in the context of the Erasmus+ Programme.

Dr. Szabó will deliver two (2) online lectures open to the general public.

The first online talk is entitled “The constitutional and political system of Hungary” and it will be held on Tuesday, October 26, and the second lecture is entitled “Legal sources and nature of parliamentary procedure and it will be delivered on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

Both lectures will start at 17:30 EEST and will be broadcasted live via the OUC eLearning Platforms through the following web link: https://bit.ly/3j1Vv7i

The first lecture will provide a general overview of the development of the Hungarian constitution in the last 30 years, the main constitutional principles including relations with the European Union, and the structure of the government.

The second lecture presents the historical development and the main sources of parliamentary procedures in general, especially the rules of the legislative procedure. It compares British, German and American elements, with reference to the Hungarian practice. The relations between parliaments and courts and legal remedies against breaches of procedural rules will also be addressed.

Dr. Zsolt Szabó is Senior Research Fellow at the National University of Public Service and Associate Professor at the Károli Gáspár University (Hungary). Prior to his academic career, he was appointed in various Hungarian government ministries and in the Hungarian pariament’s administration. His research focuses on comparative constitutional law, especially parliamentary law and legislation. He is also editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed International Journal ofParliamentary Studies.
