The Module aims to delve into environmental legislation issues and strategies promoted at the European Level with the aim of fully adopting sustainable programs and practices for better and more efficient resource management. The content of this module will provide the student with the necessary knowledge with the aim of further specialization, while at the same time he will acquire the skills required to identify and evaluate environmental risks and aspects. At the same time, policies are presented and analyzed with an emphasis on green development, the blue economy, the programs and objectives set by the United Nations, Industrial Development Strategies and Circular Economy Strategies. Students will also be trained on the importance of indicators and how they are prepared and monitored, while at the same time students will be trained in the development of a regional strategy that will aim for zero waste production and the creation of a low-carbon society. In this context, actions and techniques described in environmental education and information are presented which aim to change the trend of our consumer behavior and how we will improve our environmental performance and behavior.

The Module aims to highlight the need to take business initiatives that emphasize environmental awareness, with a simultaneous reference to the advantages promoted by green entrepreneurship with the ultimate goal of managing / limiting the environmental impacts resulting from the activities of small businesses and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Considering the fact that the business environment of SMEs is changing due to the very important environmental issues including climate change and the overexploitation of natural resources, while at the same time environmental legislation is becoming more and more strict, the conversion to environmentally friendly products and services becomes imperative. In this Module, students are introduced to the procedures for determining green entrepreneurship through standards that will be developed such as CSR, environmental management systems, green contracts, etc.

The module focuses on the production of liquid waste, its quantitative and qualitative characteristics and its management - treatment methods. Particular emphasis is placed on the pollutant parameters, the understanding of mass balances, the production and categorization of industrial waste and advanced treatment methods such as chemical reactions, membrane technology, etc.


The objective of the module is to delve into issues related to management liquid waste. The student is expected to know after the successful completion of the course: (i) The production mechanism and the main characteristics of liquid waste (municipal and industrial), (ii) the basic methods of municipal liquid waste management, (iii) the basic management methods of municipal solid waste management, (iv) methods of industrial waste management, etc. The aim of the course is the study of the basic principles of wastewater treatment systems and the processes, the design and operation parameters of the units utilized in wastewater treatment plant.

Purpose of the Industrial Safety and Health Module is to analyze the importance of safety and health in a workplace at industrial level. Basic security and health legislation will be analyzed and their main requirements will be explained. An explanation of the basic safety and health authorities will be explained, the minimum required workplace specifications, while the requirements for the development of an integrated health and safety plan will also be identified. Additionally, an introduction of the main safety and health management systems as well as of the tools / models used to assess occupational risk will be made. Particular reference will be given to industrial accidents, factors that cause them and the importance of preventing them. In addition, the limits and parameters of each risk will be explained as defined by the legislation.

The proposed module aims to study the procedures applied in the oil and gas industry. In particular, the basic elements and processes related to the formation of hydrocarbons, exploration, production and the downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry are studied. The module covers oil formation and trapping, geological exploration methods, drilling, appraisal and production. In addition, it covers the fundamentals of natural gas processing, crude oil refining, and petrochemical production. It also includes the challenges of distribution and organization in this sector while analyzing the environmental problems associated with the oil and gas sector and the alternative fuels available today. Furthermore, it is analyzing issues related to air pollution and possible methods and technology to minimize its environmental impacts. In summary, the course provides the student with specific knowledge of geology, rock and mineral formation, the technologies involved in the oil and gas sector, and the operating processes of the industry.

The Module aims to lay the scientific foundations and provide the tools for the preparation and characterization of new materials. Reference will be made to the structure of materials and their resulting technological importance. The use of these materials for energy production and storage will be reported. The necessary definitions and terminology will be given for the smooth running of the course. A general reference will be made to the properties of the materials. Definitions of properties such as electrical conductivity, an understanding of how microstructure influences the thermal conductivity of materials and their resistance to electrochemical stress and thermal shock will be given.


A detailed reference will also be made to the electrical properties of the materials. Definitions will be given and phenomena related to structure and electrical conductivity will be explained (Ohm's Law, conductors and semiconductors, insulators and dielectric properties). Reference will be made to the mechanical properties of materials. Definitions will be given and phenomena of mechanical behavior at macroscales and at small length scales will be explained. A report will be made to various types of materials such as metallic materials, ceramics and glasses, polymers and composites, electronic, magnetic and photonic materials. Also, the application fields of each material will be discussed. A report will be made to materials for green forms of energy production as well as materials for sustainable development. Reference will be made to the corrosion and wear of the materials which ultimately determine the duration of their application. For the innovative integration of materials in a safe way in a design structure it is necessary to know the properties and functionality of the materials through the control of their structure and their processing techniques. For this reason, criteria will be documented for the selection of materials for innovative applications with an emphasis on environmental chemical engineering and the requirements arising from it.

Considering the ethical dimensions of climate change the course aims to analyze the nexus of climate adaptation and the application of engineering approaches and sustainable solutions to be adopted by the industry that is responsible for a large part of climate change, the construction sector, buildings, in agricultural production, etc. At the same time, measures will be proposed for adaptation from all sectors of the economy such as the primary sector, the secondary sector (with an emphasis on the manufacturing sector), the tertiary sector (such as transport, retail trade, etc.). Measures such as infrastructure projects aimed at combating desertification, erosion, protection against sea level rise, soil metabolism, transformation of food and crop production, changes in people's behavior, reckless waste of resources, etc. will form the core of the module.


The aim of the module is to prepare individuals and the economy to adapt the current and future effects of climate change. At the same time, the ethical dimension of how humans and the economy should adapt to climate change will be examined.

The Module aims at providing integrated knowledge on pollution processes in aquatic ecosystems, and to offer comprehensive knowledge of the chemical quality parameters of aquatic ecosystems (surface, underground and marine waters). Pollutants will be examined in relation to: (i) their sources (natural and man-made), (ii) their transport routes from the sources to the aquatic ecosystems, (iii) the chemical transformations that the pollutants undergo during their transport and remain in the aquatic environment and (iv) their effects on the aquatic environment, ecosystems and human health.


Also, since the study of pollution of aquatic ecosystems requires the implementation of monitoring programs and the use of methods for assessing the quality of aquatic ecosystems, the course presents how to design pollution monitoring programs as well as methods for assessing the environmental quality of aquatic ecosystems , taking into account the existing relevant European Directives.
