As part of his visit to the Hellenic Open University (HOU) on Friday, 26 June 2026, Mr. Nearchos Nearchou, Institutional Coordinator of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) for the OpenEU Alliance, met with members of the HOU OpenEU team, Ms. Vasiliki Katsina and Ms. Panagiota Zafeiropoulou, in a highly constructive and welcoming atmosphere. The meeting was also attended by the President of the Hellenic Open University, Professor Emmanouil Koutouzis, and the Executive Director of HOU, Ms. Fani Dampa.

The discussions focused on the progress achieved in the implementation of the European University Alliance OpenEU and on opportunities for further strengthening collaboration between the Open University of Cyprus and the Hellenic Open University. The participants exchanged views on the Alliance's activities and achievements to date and explored its forthcoming strategic priorities and areas for development. Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing transnational cooperation, promoting the exchange of expertise and best practices, and jointly developing innovative academic and administrative initiatives aimed at strengthening the international dimension of both open Universities.

The participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to continuing their close collaboration within the framework of OpenEU, recognising that the combined expertise and complementary strengths of the two institutions constitute a key enabler for the successful achievement of the Alliance's strategic objectives. They further underlined that this partnership makes a significant contribution to advancing innovation, accelerating digital transformation, promoting inclusive education, and fostering the development of a robust European ecosystem for open, distance, and lifelong learning.

The meeting reaffirmed the excellent level of cooperation that has been established between the Open University of Cyprus and the Hellenic Open University and highlighted their shared determination to continue playing a leading role in the successful implementation of the OpenEU Alliance. It also underscored their common commitment to contributing to the development of the University of the Future in Europe through excellence, innovation, and strategic collaboration.
