Within the framework of the 26th Conference of Public and International Relations Departments and European Programmes/Erasmus Offices, held from 24 to 27 June 2026 at the Conference and Cultural Centre of the University of Patras, Mr. Nearchos Nearchou, Institutional Coordinator of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) for the OpenEU Alliance, held a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of Greek higher education institutions and organisations. These engagements served to promote the mission, strategic objectives, and long-term vision of the European University Alliance, OpenEU.
The meetings were conducted in a highly constructive and collaborative atmosphere, providing valuable opportunities for institutional networking and the exchange of perspectives on current developments in European higher education, the internationalisation of universities, and the opportunities arising from participation in the European Universities Alliances.
A particularly significant engagement was the working meeting between Mr. Nearchou and Professor Achilleas Kameas, Institutional Coordinator of the Hellenic Open University (HOU). The discussion focused on the progress achieved in the implementation of the OpenEU Alliance, the activities undertaken to date, and opportunities for further strengthening collaboration among the Alliance partners. The two Institutional Coordinators also reaffirmed their shared commitment to the strategic objectives of the Alliance, emphasising that the close cooperation between the Open University of Cyprus and the Hellenic Open University constitutes a key pillar for the successful implementation of OpenEU and for advancing innovation, inclusive education, digital transformation, and the internationalisation strategies of both institutions.
The participation of the Open University of Cyprus in the Conference further underscored its active contribution to fostering international engagement and strategic cooperation within the European Higher Education Area. It also reinforced the visibility of the OpenEU Alliance and facilitated the development of new synergies with higher education institutions and organisations that share a common commitment to shaping the future of European higher education through collaboration, excellence, and innovation.
