The Open University of Cyprus, as a partner of the OpenEU project, successfully hosted on January 27, 2026,  a thematic workshop focused on dialogue between OpenEU researchers and key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society and higher education institutions, with the aim of identifying the most critical Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Cyprus and exploring the role that Higher Education can play in addressing them.

The workshop was opened with an address by Christoforos Christodoulides, Director of Administration and Finance of the Open University of Cyprus, who highlighted the importance of evidence-based dialogue and collaborative approaches in addressing complex societal challenges.

The session was coordinated by Jahna Otterbacher, Professor at the Open University of Cyprus, and focused on participatory discussion, critical reflection, and co-creation. Through structured dialogue, participants contributed insights and perspectives that will inform the next stages of the project deliverables, supporting a more inclusive and context- aware understanding of SDG priorities in Cyprus.

The workshop concluded with the successful production of consolidated discussion output, reflecting the collective input of participants and reinforcing the value of multi-stakeholder engagement in research and policy-relevant processes.

The Open University of Cyprus remains committed to fostering meaningful collaboration between academia, institutions, and society, contributing actively to European research initiatives that promote democratic values, sustainability, and inclusive development.

The OpenEU alliance, coordinated by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), will contribute to the digital transformation of higher education institutions and the integration of technology in teaching and learning.
