The European Security and Defence College (ESDC), in collaboration with the Open University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Security and Defence Academy (Ministry of Defence),co-organised the Pilot Course on "Sustainable and Resilient Leadership for CSDP" alongside.
Held in Brussels from 3 to 7 March 2025, the course brought together 23 participants nominated by 12 EU Member States, third countries, EU institutions, and EU missions/operations, with backgrounds in diplomacy, military, police, and civilian sectors. The participants explored key leadership concepts within the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
The course was led by Professor Emeritus Petros Pashiardis (Open University of Cyprus) and Professor Stefan Brauckmann-Sajkiewicz (University of Klagenfurt, Austria). Under their guidance, participants gained knowledge, attitudes, and leadership skills necessary for effective leadership roles with international recognition.
The course covered essential aspects of leadership, including: organisational change and resistance to change, situational leadership theories, the role of context in leadership, considering political, demographic, economic, and legal factors.
