[25/04/2024] Hybrid open lecture: "Globalization and Green Business: The Role of China" by Dr Yun Liu

A rather hot topic in today’s globalized environment will be addressed in an open hybrid talk entitled "Globalization and Green Business: The Role of China", with invited speaker Dr. Yun Liu, Associate Professor at the Department of International Studies of the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in China. Dr Liu is hosted for this lecture by the “Master of Business Administration (The Open MBA)” of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC), under the Erasmus+ International Mobility Programme. The hybrid talk will deal with two topics: a) Globalization and the Role of China”, and b) Green Business in Asia, and it will be held on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, at 17:00 GMT+3 at the Main OUC Building in Nicosia (33, Yiannou Kranidioti Avenue, 2220 Latsia). In the first session entitled “Globalization and the Role of China”, the speaker will provide an introduction to China’s international relations, drawing, where appropriate, on international relations theory. The lecture aims to promote in-depth comprehension on China’s role and policy paths in international affairs and regional/global development, especially given the increase in its economic importance. In the second session entitled “Green Business in China”, the speaker will address China’s green business adapting paths for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and relevant agendas in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The updated progress of the Chinese Carbon Emission Reduction (CCER) will be presented as a case study that helps to illustrate China’s latest effort for the initiatives of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

Dr. Yun Liu undertook undergraduate and postgraduate studies in finance and industrial economics in Wuhan, China, and then completed his doctorate degree in History and Finance (Queen’s & Alberta) in Canada. His research interests are focused on East and Southeast Asia, regional and global history, Cultural studies, Governance and Ethical issues. His research background widely extends from the cross-disciplinary domains of World/Asian History and Development Studies, to the overlapping fields of International Political Economy to Environmental-industrial Policy Studies.
