Το Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα Επιστήμες της Αγωγής του Ανοικτού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου, διοργανώνει εργαστήριο/workshop με θέμα “An introduction to post-qualitative inquiry” και ομιλήτρια την Καθηγήτρια Vivienne Bozalek του University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa.

H Dr. Bozalek επισκέπτεται το ΑΠΚΥ στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος Erasmus+ και συγκεκριμένα της δράσης Erasmus+ International Mobility.

To workshop θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Τρίτη 25 Ιουνίου 2019, μεταξύ 17:00 και 19:30, στην αγγλική γλώσσα και θα είναι ανοικτό για κάθε ενδιαφερόμενο.

Περίληψη εργαστηρίου:

Post-qualitative inquiry addresses the ontological turn in research – “an ethical imperative to rethink the nature of being” (St. Pierre et al., 2016, p 100). This kind of research provides an alternative to “conventional humanist qualitative methodologies” (St. Pierre, 2017, p. 1), ‘‘produc[ing] different knowledge and produc[ing] knowledge differently’’ (St. Pierre, 1997: 175). It is largely influenced by the work of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, Rosi Braidotti, Donna Haraway, Karen Barad, and others whose works prioritise materiality –  where ‘matter matters’.  Post-qualitative theorists and researchers are interested in notions of difference, becoming, movement, affirmative readings, and embodiment. Another important feature of post-qualitative methodologies is that they all subscribe to a relational ontology –which holds that beings or entities do not pre-exist relationships – things or people come into being through relationships as does agency. Karen Barad calls this ‘entanglement’ and Deleuze and Guattari call it ‘assemblages’  which Maggie MacLure  refers to as an “unholy mixture, of language and materiality” (MacLure, 2013, p. 165). Post-qualitative inquiry has also been called nonrepresentational research as it is based on the belief that the material world is accessible outside of language, linguistic or discourse systems.  Post-qualitative research attempts to reach beyond dualisms and binarisms – considering for example, the importance of moving beyond the divides of natureculture, materialdiscursive, bodymind etc. Post-qualitative research thus works towards conceptual creativity and complexity (Braidotti, 2013) and considers how theory and data are mutually entangled and co-constitute each other (Jackson and Mazzei, 2012; Van Cleave and Bridges-Rhoads, 2017).

In this workshop, we will engage with the reading provided to you beforehand, and have a community of enquiry with this reading and then move on to a general discussion and synopsis of the main ideas informing post-qualitative inquiry.
 

Βιογραφικό ομιλήτριας:

Professor Vivienne Bozalek is the Director of Teaching and Learning at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa. Prior to this she was Chairperson of the Department of Social Work, University of Western Cape. She holds a PhD from Utrecht University. Her areas of research, publications and expertise include the use of social justice and the political ethics of care perspectives, innovative pedagogical approaches in Higher Education, feminist and participatory research methodologies, posthumanism, feminist new materialist and critical family studies.  She is the principal researcher on a number of National Research Foundation projects on theoretical approaches to socially just pedagogies in higher education. She is the recipient of awards related to research, scholarship and teaching and learning.
