Περίληψη/Abstract:

It is well known that waste, is mainly considered an environmental issue although it has a strong relation with social dimensions and economics. From East to West and from South to North, on the entire planet and without any doubt waste will continue to increase according to the projections of the World Bank, Eurostat, Economist and many other scientific texts as the per capital waste production varies from 0.77 kg/d (South Asia Region) to almost 2.1 kg/d (for North America and Europe). And once any material or item is disposed of, as citizens don’t need it or any substance/object which the holder discards or intends or requires to discard, then resources are being used up; and all contributes to the environmental pressures everywhere. And once a product is thrown away, and becomes waste, a whole new set of impacts is involved in treating it.

From the Treaty of Rome (back in 1957), where the only statement (as a target) on environmental production was “the harmonization of environmental legislations and uniformity in the fight against certain forms of aid, so that technical barriers to the free circulation of goods would not arise due to different national links”, to the targets set to be reached in 2030 and 2050 which resulted from the Circular Economy Strategy, United Nation Development Goals and the vision of 7th Environmental Action Program, Strategy(ies) must be developed in the Framework of Waste Management. Those Strategies aim to increase quality of life and changed the way that citizens react. Those Strategies must reduce the impact of several processes on the environment through product and corporate policies using green applicable sustainable resources and environmental management systems as well as number of activities measuring at the same time the impact on society.
