Module Purpose and Objectives

Students will be able to:

• identify the historical, cultural, and political dimensions of ‘the curriculum’
• recognize the impact of various theoretical ideas (e.g. postmodernism, poststructuralism, posthumanism) in curriculum theory and development
• discuss the development of modern curricula in multicultural societies

Module Content

Examining various topics and aspects with regards to curriculum development and theory. The module covers: the historical, cultural, and political dimensions of ‘the curriculum’; the impact of various theoretical ideas (e.g. postmodernism, poststructuralism, posthumanism) in curriculum theory and development; and, the development of modern curricula in multicultural societies.
