PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The postgraduate programme THEATRE STUDIES aims to provide students with the skills and methods of understanding theatre, with special emphasis on three areas:

(1) Reception of ancient drama

(2) Theatre in education

(3) Acting and Directing

The postgraduate programme Theatre Studies is addressed to the following: 

  • Graduates in Theatre Studies,
  • Graduates in Literature,
  • Graduates in Education Sciences,
  • Graduates in Social, Economic and related sciences,
  • Graduates of all specialisations, since the subject is taught in secondary education,
  • Actors and theatre people with a university bachelor’s degree.

Applications are accepted from anyone who holds a BA or equivalent degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution of Cyprus or abroad. For the time being, courses are offered only in Greek.

WHY CHOOSE TO ATTEND?

You can work:

- on television or radio as a consultant for theatre and cultural programmes.

-at the Ministry of Education and/or Culture, in local government or in cultural associations responsible for theatrical and cultural events.

- as a theatre critic in the daily and periodical press.

- as a drama expert, dramaturge (responsible for the analysis of theatrical texts in preparation for the show), or head of artistic programming.

If you are an educator, you can enrich your teaching practice with theatre techniques to make lessons more creative; you can also stage plays together with your students.

If you have experience in business management, you can work in the management and promotion of cultural products.

European Credit Units - ECTS: 120

Level of Studies: Postgraduate

Title to be Awarded: Magister Artium (MA)

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirement for admission to a postgraduate programme is an undergraduate degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution.

In addition, students should demonstrate that they are sufficiently competent in English to comprehend academic bibliography in that language.

TUITION FEES

The total cost of the fees for this postgraduate programme is 5,400 Euro. 

The tuition fees for each module are 1,350€. The tuition fees for the Master Thesis are also 1,350€.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The Postgraduate Programme in Theatre Studies offers a choice between the following two types of study:

A. Taught Master's degree with a compulsory MA dissertation

B. Taught Master's degree with no MA dissertation.

A. The Master's degree with a compulsory MA dissertation (120 ECTS) is structured in the following manner:

Compulsory Modules (courses):

1. TSP 50 History of the Theatre and Drama (30 ECTS)

2. TSP 51 Theory of the Theatre (30 ECTS)

Elective Modules (courses):

1. TSP 60 Reception of Ancient Drama (30 ECTS)

–or–

2. TSP61 Theatre in Education (30 ECTS)

–or–

3. TSP62 Acting and Directing (30 ECTS)

MA Dissertation (compulsory)

An MA Dissertation of 15000 – 20000 words on one of the subjects covered by the Elective Modules listed above.

B. The Master's degree with no compulsory MA dissertation (120 ECTS) is structured in the following manner:

Compulsory Modules (courses):

1. TSP 50 History of the Theatre and Drama (30 ECTS)

2. TSP 51 Theory of the Theatre (30 ECTS)

3. TSP62 Acting and Directing (30 ECTS)

Elective Modules (course):

1. TSP 60 Reception of Ancient Drama (30 ECTS)

2. TSP61 Theatre in Education (30 ECTS)

3. TSP63 Theatre Practice: Applications of Acting and Directing (30 ECTS)

Students may choose to study one or two modules per academic year. Choosing one module per year makes you a part-time student while choosing two modules per academic year makes you a full-time student.
