The Open University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Theatre Museum are co-organising the international conference “Performing Menander Today”, which will take place on 17–18 April 2027 at the Cyprus Theatre Museum in Limassol. Interested participants are invited to submit proposals for 20-minute papers, in either Greek or English, on topics including modern productions of Menander, translation and adaptation, the dramaturgical reconstruction of fragments, scenography, acting, and the contemporary reception of New Comedy. The conference is organised within the framework of the research project Menander Redivivus: New Comedy on the Modern Stage and focuses on Menander, the foremost representative of Athenian New Comedy, as well as on the reception and performance of his work in modern theatre. The event aims to bring together classicists, theatre scholars, early-career researchers, and theatre practitioners, fostering dialogue between classical scholarship, theatre studies, and contemporary performance practice.
Participation in all conference activities is free of charge. In addition to academic paper presentations, the programme will include practical workshops on scenography, acting, and directing, as well as a roundtable discussion with theatre practitioners.
